obesity reminds me of food (or something like that)
This article from Viet Nam News is headlined:
When dieting doesn’t help, the obese pin hopes on acupuncture
Then it goes on to talk about this 50-year-old woman who was "obese" at 165cm and weighed 65kg. I'm in serious trouble! I always thought I was a bit soft (as my daughter once put it), but now I've found out I am obese. Who knew?

In other news, dragonfruit costs $7 each at Uwajimaya. Ouch. Banh mi cost $1 each, but I need it to try to make banh mi trung (one of the kids' faves). Anyone know what else goes on there beside fried egg, dried pork, cucumbers... what else?

Still no sua chua/yogurt. Color me blue.

No, no, even worse, the dragonfruit was $7 a pound, not each. They all seemed over a pound to me, maybe even 2 pounds, yikes!!

ISn't it outrageous. I've tried finding a few favorites from our trip and have decided to splurge here and there as it is nothing I can afford regularly.
Good luck on the yogurt, it was likely made with a different kind of milk (water buffalo?) The yogurt there was very good and was half our breakfast every morning (went well with a bowl of Pho Bo Gai (sp?)
My mon used to make sua chua at home when we lived in VN. It's very easy to make at home. Here is how:
1 can of condensed milk.
1 8oz. plain yogurt that you can buy from any grocery store. (has to be plain yogurt)
1 can of boiling water (use the empty can of condensed milk for scale)
2 can of regular milk (or water) (use the empty can of condensed milk for scale).
Empty the can of condensed milk into a big bowl, mix in 1 can of boiling water. Make sure the condensed milk mixes well before adding the plain yogurt and continue to mix them well. After that, add 2 cans of regular milk (or water) and mix them again.
Now it time to put the mixture into individual jars and close the lid, preferably 3rd stage babyfood jars (with lid). arrange all sua chua jars flat into one big flat bottom container and pour boiling water up to the neck of sua chua jars. close container and let it sit for 4 hours before putting the sua chua jars in refrigerator until cool for serving.
Let me know if you're able to make it. The sua chua may get a little liquidy the first time you make it. Just try to adjust the amount of water. Don't forget to save one jar for the next time (this will replace the plain yogurt that you bought from the store)
Good Luck!!!
